2009 All-Star Recap
Our softball all-stars joined forces with their friends from Palma Ceia and Interbay again this year.
Softball South Tampa Minors - District 6 Participants
Although they finished with only a single win in the District, all of the games played by our Minors team were super close. Despite solid pitching, consistent offensive production, and late leads, the breaks just did not go their way. However, the players enjoyed themselves and are fired up for next year. Oh ... and by the way, the team they beat - Citrus Park - went on to win District 6, Section 7, and were State finalists. Congrats to the following players:
Sammy Conlon, Erin Fields, Ansley Gould, Quen Hawkins, Lexi Hutchinson, Lauren King, Sara Lattman, Kayla McGory, Katie Pine, Emily Rubin, Tegan Smith, Kelsey Woodward. Coaches: Dan Fields, Bo Longshore
Softball South Tampa 10-11 - District 6 Champions, Section 7 Champions, State of Florida Semi-Finalists
Our 10-11 team hit the ground running with a hard-fought victory over their friends on the West Tampa/Bayshore team, eventually grabbing the District 6 title without a loss. Compared to Districts, the ensuing sweep at Section 7 was a breeze. At State, they easily won their qualifying matchups against Mount Dora 12-0 and Tri-County 9-4. Then, in a long, hot, semi-final game, they were edged out 5-4 by Windemere, winding up with a third-place finish. Altogether, they posted 8 consecutive victories before their untimely exit and outscored all District, Sectional, and State opponents by a combined margin of 104 to 26. Congratulations to our '10-11' Softball team:
Marina Bragg, Caroline Carter, Lauren Corcoran, Caroline Grieves, Ashlen Krone, Erika Savitt, Julia Schifino, Christina Thompson, Danielle Tringali, Kari Trautvetter, Kaylee Webb, Cierra Welsh. Coaches: Jeff Krone, Mike Tringali, Bill Schifino
Softball South Tampa Majors - District 6 Champions, Section 7 Champions, State of Florida Finalists
Our Majors team secured a spot in the State tournament after first winning the District 6 and Section 7 titles. At State, they dominated in their qualifying games against Windemere 5-2 and Mims 12-2 and then retired Bloomingdale in a 7-0 semi-final victory. Unfortunately, they fell 3-1 in the rematch with Windemere in the championship game. Windemere scored all of its runs in the first inning and held on with good defensive play. Surprisingly, South Tampa couldn't answer with their normally dependable bats. With an overall 8 and 1 record, the stinging loss in the state finals was the only time our girls had even trailed in a game in the District, Sectional or State tournaments. Congratulations to our 'Majors' Softball players:
Sid Brown, Danielle Scott, Samantha Scott, Alana Healy, Victoria Valdes, Kylie Brown, Megan Preslowski, Sidney Socher, Katie Weachter, Kasey Wishart, Caitelyn Herrera, Kendall Arcia. Coaches: Mike Valdes, Scott Brown
Softball South Tampa Juniors - District 6 Champions, Section 7 Champions, FL State Champions, Southeast USA Regional Champions, World Series Semi-Finalists
Our Juniors team began their post-season with a 1-0 loss to West Tampa. In the championship re-match, they pulled together and took the District 6 title! As expected, they had a much easier time winning the Section 7 crown. At State, they breezed through qualifying games against St. Cloud 10-0 and St. Augustine 16-0 and defeated Land-O-Lakes 13-1 in the semi-finals. In the finals, they held on against Naples in a rain-delayed 1-0 game to bring home the gold!
Sporting a new name - Team Florida - the girls headed to Fort Myers in early August and worked their way through a tough field of Southeast USA Regional opponents. They won their first two qualifying games with convincing victories over Virginia (7-0) and West Virginia (4-0). Despite losing the next game to a solid Tennessee team (10-6), they advanced to the semi-final round. In the semi-final game against tournament host Cape Coral, the girls were awesome, taking a 5-3 victory and securing a spot in the finals. In the Southeast Regional Championship game against Tennessee, Team Florida won 2-1, earning a berth in the World Series Tournament in Kirkland, Washington.
World Series Results: Team Florida posted an impressive 15-1 victory over Team Canada in their first World Series pool-play game on August 16th. In their second pool-play game the following Tuesday against the host team from Washington, they won 13-2. In their 3rd pool-play game, the girls had a bit of an off day and lost to Puerto Rico 7-3. Thursday's final pool-play game was a do-or-die game against a very good team from Texas. Team Florida pitched a shut-out and won 3-0. With that victory, they earned a spot in the semi-finals.
In the Semi-Finals, our girls played very well but could not hold off the undefeated team from Ohio, who finally broke open the scoreless game in the sixth inning. The loss put Team Florida in the consolation game against Asia. They won this game 7-3, earning bronze medals. Third in world -- not too shabby!
Jordon Baker, Shannon Taylor, Rachel Hampton, Sammie Melo, Amanda Schifino, Caroline Sutton, Miranda Reddick, Ashton Hill, Taylor Newman, Sarah Miller, Sabrina Cuzio, Alexis Jackson, Olivia Bentschner. Coaches: Ed Sutton, Rick Osborne, Krystal Crooks

Baseball TBLL Minors - District 6 Semi-Finalists
After a tough start against Bayshore, the Minors team roared back in Game 2, beating Northside 18-0 with big bats and a near perfect 'no-no' by pitcher Shawn McGory. They followed this with a 7-2 victory over Keystone in the quarterfinals before finally giving way to Palma Ceia in the district semi-finals. Well done gentlemen:
Carter Andersen, Robby Eisch, Wright Holman, Graham Kite-Powell, Jacob Lauro, Robby Layne, Sal Lumia, Shawn McGory, Connor Scott, Alex Smith, Cooper Stinson, Parker Williams. Coaches: Rufus Kite-Powell, Tim McGory, Jim Eisch
Baseball TBLL 10-11 - District 6 Participants

Baseball TBLL Majors - District 6 Champions
Our Majors baseball team lost their first post-season game to Keystone 4-0. However, they stayed focused, eventually pulling out a stunning 11-1 victory in the finals over their long-time rivals, Bayshore, to win the District 6 Tournament! In the Section 7 Tournament, the guys started out with an 8-2 loss to eventual champ West Pasco. They rallied the next day with an exciting 8-6 victory against Seminole. Unfortunately, they were on the wrong end of a 15-10 shoot-out with Crystal River in the final game of sectional pool play. Congratulations:

2007 Team Results by Martee Craparo and friends
Baseball 9-10 year old All-Stars - District 6 Finalists! After winning their pool undefeated (scoring 44 runs while giving up only 6!), the 9-10 year olds took on the also undefeated home field Bayshore All-Stars, beating them soundly Thursday night 11-1. Friday night, Bayshore kept the score close and took the game 13 to 11. In Saturday's rubber match, the TBLL team played SO hard. They melted under the midday sun, and sweltered in the hotbox called a dugout. For almost 4 hours they battled on... but it was not meant to be. Silver Medals adorn their necks...and next year - WATCH OUT!
Danny Brackman, Clark Bulleit, Nate Cohen, Tommy Craparo, Sam Dickie, Patrick Donovan, Patrick Kiszla, Foster Lattman, Josh Russo, Nik Shamrell, Graeme Stinson, Kyle Tucker, & John Voiland. Managed by Steve Cohen , Coaches Chris Kizsla & Ed Bulleit.
Baseball 10-11 All-Stars - Even though they had a tough start, their dreams never faltered and they fought back valiantly, winning follow up games, playing daily and eliminating opponents one after the other. These truly are ALL STARS! And leaving the fields on the last night, disappointed and weary of the constant stress of play, our boys did so with their heads held high, knowing they had given their all. They had done all they could do, and they had been fine examples of good sports, and representatives of TBLL.
Andrew Basham (alt), Trevor Coulter, Chance Drake, Caperton Ellis, Zach Faulk, Tommy Frueh, Lorenzo Gonzales, Mitch Hiatt, Christophe Jean, Nick Ligori, L.J. Pennachio, Jake Rogers (alt), Ben Russ, Chandler Young, Manager Steve Gonzalez & Coach Rick Coulter

Baseball Juniors All-Stars - had a long run in the District tournament. One run kept them from going into extra innings in the final pool play game. Great job Juniors! We are very proud of you! Managed by Robert Rodriguez.
Softball 9-10 All Stars - Third place in District 6! After a tough loss in the first round to Bay/West (a combined Bayshore/West Tampa allstar team), they came back in the bottom of the 6th to knock off Citrus Park! Against Northside the next night, they trailed 5-0 in the first inning but fought back to tie it in the 6th and and finally claimed victory in the bottom of the 9th! Exhausted, our girls did their best in a rematch against Bay/West but couldn't manage another victory. Commended by BayWest on their terrific sportsmanship and team play, these girls are a Class Act that will be tough to beat in years to come!
Maddie Andersen, Maren Burns, Kayla Cunningham, Caroline Grieves, Alana Healy, Caroline Kimbler, Ashlen Krone, Julia Schifino, Danielle Scott, Samantha Scott, & Danielle Tringali. Manager Bill Schifino, Coaches Carter Andersen, Dave Healy, Jeff Krone, Mike Scott, & Mike Tringali
Softball 11 yr old All Stars headed directly to the State Tournament on July 21st in Fort Myers, combining with Palma Ceia. Our girls had a tremendous time in what would be the first travel experience for most. We had great pitching by Shannon Taylor and Sammie Melo, along with some great hitting. The girls endured some bad weather, which may have hindered their focus, but overall they made many new friends and enjoyed being a Tampa Bay All Star.
From TBLL: Faith Lindley, Samantha Melo, Rachel Miller, Miranda Reddick, Amanda Schifino, Caroline Sutton, Shannon Taylor, Nina Smith, Grace Pennino, Lauren Rubin. Managed by Steve Reddick and coached by Ed Sutton and Lee Ann Melo.

Softball Major All-Stars - District 6, Section 7, and FL State Champions! Our girls joined forces with Interbay & Palma Ceia to defeat a very tough opponent, Citrus Park, in the final game for the District title. Tampa Bay's Rachel Hampton pitched all 7 innings winning 3-2. The girls then went undefeated in the Sectional games, allowing only one run to score in 3 games! In the State semi-finals against Naples, Caroline Ellis hit a bases-loaded double to score 3 runs. Naples never recovered and we won 5-2. In the State Championship game vs. Plant City, Ellis pitched for the 6-3 win. During that game, Ashley Cozart, who batted an amazing 500 for the entire 17-game all-star season, broke open the 3-3 tie in the bottom of the 5th with an RBI triple. Ashton Hill made a diving catch in the outfield to rob Plant City of a game-changing hit. Congratulations Girls!
From TBLL: Ashley Cozart, Caroline Ellis, Ashton Hill and Rachel Hampton. Coached by Carlton Cozart
SB Juniors TBLL/PCLL All Stars - FL State Finalists! Kelsey Howard had a strong all-star season, contributing with solid defense and a powerful bat. Caitlyn Cozart, one of two starting pitchers, tossed 7 strong innings and drove in a run in the State finals, but we lost a close one 4-3.
From TBLL: Caitlyn Cozart, Kelsey Howard
